About NISC
Welcome to the National Industry Skills Committee’s web page.
The National Industry Skills Committee (NISC) was established as a sub-committee of the Ministerial Council for Vocational and Technical Education (MCVTE). The term of the inaugural NISC was from 31 March 2006 until 31 December 2008. During this period, the NISC was responsible for advising the Ministerial Council for Vocational and Technical Education (MCVTE) on matters relating to vocational education and training, including workforce planning, future training priorities and other related issues. This included advice on:
- strategies to improve training outcomes and delivery, usability of and access to the national training system;
- industry training research priorities to ensure that the system is well positioned to respond to emerging challenges; and
- ways that industry can work with Governments to improve outcomes for disadvantaged clients, particularly Indigenous Australians and people with a disability.
The Committee obtained and provided this strategic industry training advice through the following means and mechanisms:
- directly interacting with MCVTE and the National Senior Officials Committee on issues of relevance to industry;
- commissioning the development of strategic issues papers, involving consultation with relevant stakeholders, to inform the advice the Committee provides to the Ministerial Council;
- liaising with the National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER) on industry training research issues and priorities;
- ongoing liaison with the National Quality Council, to ensure industry’s views inform the quality assurance arrangements for the national training system.
The MCVTE has agreed to a redefined role and new membership for the NISC in 2009. Further updates will be provided when these arrangements are finalised.
